Tammy Jewell, Director

Tammy was born and raised in Hudson and resides in her childhood home. Her caregiving days began in her early days as she learned to care for her father who suffered a severe stroke. Not only did she provide care for her father, she also supported her brother who became a paraplegic from an accidental fall. Caregiving became a natural way of living,

As Tammy began her working career, she found purpose working in a nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Tammy shared that it was there that she found her true passion.  Her passion caring for those living a challenged life brought meaning and joy.

In 2001, a new adult daycare (Daybreak) was introduced to Lenawee County. She began her career as a program assistant on March 1st of 2001 and a short time later she gained the role of Director. For the next twenty years she carried that title of the program. Tammy didn’t look at her position as a title. It was all about assisting those living with challenges, caring for the caregivers and building a service that would be essential the community.

Tammy’s love for helping others was evident. She was always researching and looking for ways to enhance the lives of others. She was instrumental in leading caregiver seminars, she created the first Memory Café in Lenawee County and has been a support group facilitator through the Alzheimer’s Association for the past eighteen years. During caregiver seminars, Tammy was given the opportunity to meet some well-known educators, one being Teepa Snow.

In 2015, Tammy became a certified trainer through the Positive Approach to Care program. And that wasn’t enough, two years later she went back and became a coach through the same program. Tammy credits Teepa Snow for her knowledge on how to care for those living with memory loss. She has and continues to attend many seminars and educational sessions on memory loss and how to be a better caregiver.

In 2021, and on a new adventure, Tammy and Jeff Case decided to open a new adult daycare that would allow Lenawee County another choice. She is adamant in her goal of helping others on the caregiver journey as well as providing the participants who attend Touch of Home Adult Daycare an enriching way to live.

In her spare time, Tammy enjoys spending time with husband, her chocolate labs and playing in her “she shed.”  Tammy is also employed through Anderson-Marry Funeral Home and enjoys serving the community in another role.

Tammy shared, “every day is a new day. No two days are going to be alike when caring for someone living with memory loss. That’s when you have to be the detective, dig a little deeper in your pockets and see what works today”.

Chris Waite, Assistant Director

Chris is a native of the Sand Creek area and graduated from Sand Creek. She continues to live in the same vicinity along with her husband Rodney.

After graduation, Chris chose to take time to raise her children before entering the “work world”.  She started her career working in nursing homes as a certified nursing assistant and stayed in that line of work for ten years.  At that point Chris accepted a position in the child care industry.

In 2016, Chris found herself being redirected to caring for older adults. She accepted a position as assistant director of an adult day program. She caught on quickly and applied some skills that she used in child care to please older adults as well.  She increased her knowledge on how to care for those living with memory challenges by becoming a certified coach through the Positive Approach to Care program. She continued to reach to her co-workers for input on how to be the best caregiver possible.  Her professional skills have led families to share that she is “Top Notch” in the world of caregiving.

I am so thankful that Chris was part of my caregiving team. My wife was always happy under the care of Chris and she would do things for Chris that she wouldn’t do for me. I can never give her enough credit or thanks.
— JS

In 2021, after hearing about a new day program opening, she graciously accepted the role as assistant director in a new facility. Chris has fulfilled an important role under Touch of Home Adult Daycare. She maintains her certifications and continues to use Positive Approach to Care techniques in the lives of those who utilize the service. To see Chris interact with those facing memory loss or other disabilities never goes unnoticed.  Her admiration for others is just…Chris.

Chris shared, “I know caregiving every day, day in and day out, can be the toughest job anyone could possibly have. I encourage those who are caregiving to visit Touch of Home Adult Daycare and see how we can assist you. Three or four hours a day and a couple of times a week can make a big difference for the caregiver and your loved one.”
